Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours From Las Vegas

Did you know that Grand Canyon helicopters from Las Vegas fly only to the West Rim? This is due to fuel limitations. As for getting to the South Rim, I'll show you how later. Right now, let's stick with...

Grand Canyon Helicopters From Las Vegas

Grand Canyon flights depart from the Vegas metro area year round including all major holidays. Helicopters make the trip to the West Rim, also known as Grand Canyon West, in less than half an hour. The route takes you over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, a Joshua Tree forest, and the Grand Cliffs Wash.

Types of Canyon Helicopter Tours

There's a Grand Canyon air tour for everyone. Here's a look at the most popular:

  • Air Tour - Soar over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon West, and the Grand Canyon Skywalk before returning to Vegas. Perfect for time-strapped travelers.
  • Landing Tours - Descend to bottom of the West Rim. Enjoy a Champagne picnic. Upgrade and include a boat ride and the Skywalk.
  • Skywalk - VIP access to the Skywalk, the attraction that lets you walk 70 feet past the edge. Explore rim using Park's free shuttle service.

When to Take a Helicopter Flight

This is totally subjective but I recommend you take a morning flight for best visibility and fewer "bumps" in the air. There are also sunrise and sunset flights.

EcoStar 130 - The King of Helicopters

Most tours are conducted aboard an AStar. These choppers are excellent for sightseeing. However, if you want to take it up a notch, upgrade to the EcoStar 130. These aircraft feature theater-style seating, more legroom, larger seats, and 180-degree windshields. Definitely worth the extra money.

Buying a Helicopter Tour

Prices are all over the map. One thing's for sure: Never pay full retail price. The Internet is loaded with special promotions. Most are legit. Some can be sketchy. Read the fine print. Or play it safe and check out my Top 3 Grand Canyon helicopter companies.

Here are two things you need to do in order to lock in the best price:

  • Purchase in advance. Two weeks minimum. Same-day purchases will cost you a mint. Canyon heli tours are incredibly popular and do sell out. Booking before you go secures your seat.
  • Purchase online. Most websites are safe. I buy all my helicopter tours online and have never had an issue.

South Rim Helicopter Tours

There are no helicopter flights from Vegas to the South Rim. If your heart is set on a South Rim chopper ride, here are 2 ways to do it:

  • Bus - Leaves Las Vegas in the morning and takes 5.5 hours to reach Grand Canyon Airport. Transfer to helicopter for rim-to-rim. Get on bus and experience the rim on the ground.
  • Plane - Departs daily and gets to the South Rim in 45 minutes. Transfer to helicopter. Take rim-to-rim flight. Take luxury bus to rim and check out Park's most famous lookouts.

Grand Canyon by Helicopter

Helicopters are a great way to see as much of the canyon as possible in the shortest amount of time. They're also very maneuverable and can take you places that you can't see from a plane. Sound like your cup of tea? Use these links for more information:

Have a GRAND day,
