Is There a Direct Flight from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon South Rim?

Yes, there are airplane flights that depart Las Vegas and fly direct to Grand Canyon Airport (not to be mistaken with Pulliam Airport in Flagstaff, AZ). This, in my opinion, is the absolute best way to get to the South Rim. I have a number of reasons why. Here are my top seven:

#1. It's Fast

The flight is 45 minutes long. Compared to self-driving or riding a bus for 5.5 hours, this plane ride borders on the miraculous. Flights depart daily from the Vegas area and come with free hotel pick up and drop off.

#2. You See Key Landmarks En Route

The flight path takes you past Lake Mead, the largest manmade reservoir in the United States, and Hoover Dam, the structure that single-handedly tamed the mighty Colorado River.

#3. You See 50 % of the Canyon!

Once past Grand Canyon West, the plane uses the river as a guide. You're not directly over it (regulations don't permit it), but you do fly along it. Make sure you get a window seat. Then kick back and imagine how many days it would take to see all this from the ground?!?!

#4. Airplanes Are Super Comfortable.

Lots of people think the flight is done on four-person Beechcraft. Not true. These are customized, 19-passenger Vistaliners and they come with large cabins, recliner-style seats, powerful A/C, oversized viewing windows and plenty of elbow room. These aircraft definitely make flying the friendly skies fun and relaxing.

#5. You Arrive at South Rim Fresh & Energized

Taking the plane is a walk in the park. Once you've reached altitude, you stretch out, much a snack and enjoy the show out the window. It's quite exhilarating. I can't say the same for the bus. Last time I did the motor coach, I had to pound back three Red Bulls, and that was before we got to the South Rim! Look, any tour to the rim is an all-day adventure. Wouldn't you rather hit the park running rather than crawling?

#6. Includes a Guided South Rim Ground Tour

Effortlessly switch from plane to luxury motor coach and make the 10-minute drive to Grand Canyon National Park. Time in park ranges between 2.5 to three hours, which is plenty to see the area's amazing museums, lookouts (Mather Point, Yaki Point), gift shops (the best is in Bright Angel Lodge) and more.

#7. Gets You Back in Las Vegas for Before Dinner!

Let's face it: It's Vegas and most of the fun stuff happens at night. This is the ONLY South Rim airplane tour I know that will have you back in "Neonopolis" before Jersey Boys starts. Take the bus and you're crawling through the hotel lobby at 10 p.m.

Best Direct Canyon Flight Ever?

Absolutely! I've taken practically every Grand Canyon South Rim tour from Vegas and the plane is the one I enjoy the most. It's a simple, quick, and enjoyable flight that delivers all the canyon's highlights in a single day. Now that's something I think we can all agree is profound.
