Hi, Keith here, with a quick note about why taking a Grand Canyon airplane tour is a great way to sightsee the canyon. How so? Well, when you consider that the National Park is comprised of more than one million acres, there's just no way to do it justice except to get airborne. By my estimation, what you see in 50 minutes in the air is equivalent to at least three days on the ground. That's pretty darn significant.

Canyon Plane Rides Deliver!

There are two departure points for canyon plane tours: Las Vegas and Grand Canyon Airport (GCA). From Vegas, you can do the West Rim and the South Rim. From GCA, you can do South Rim and all points east and north. Here are more details:

West Rim

The West Rim is just 120 miles east of Vegas. The flight is around 25 minutes. En route, you'll see Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. If you take the air-only tour, you'll fly over the rim and the Grand Canyon Skywalk before heading back to Sin City. If you land, your options include doing the Skywalk or boarding a helicopter to the bottom of the canyon and riding a pontoon boat down the Colorado River. As I tell friends and family, the West Rim has activities for everyone.

South Rim

The National Park, also known as the South Rim, is famous for its scenery. The most famous images of the canyon were most likely taken here. Basic airplane tours include the South Rim, East Rim, and the North Rim. And it's all done in 50 minutes! Nothing quite comes close to the value and price of this trip. The other air tour that I like is one that combines an airplane flight to Glen Canyon Dam in Page, AZ, with a 15-mile smooth water float tour.

If you are in Las Vegas and want to see the South Rim, then you've got to take a Grand Canyon airplane tour. It's a terrific 45-minute flight that follows the Colorado River to GCA, lands, and lets you board either a bus or helicopter in order to explore the rim. Believe it or not, this is a day trip, which means you'll be back in Vegas in time for your evening entertainment reservations.

Awesome Day Trip? Take a Canyon Air Tour!

Lots of folks ask me about the aircraft used on these tours. Let's get this out in the open: These are Vistaliner planes. They're big and can seat up to 19 people. They are equipped with the latest navigational equipment and are aerodynamically designed to provide you with the smoothest flight possible. They've also been modified for sightseeing and feature oversized windows and elevated wings, which means you've got unobstructed views as you take pictures.

These airplane rides are all-inclusive and come with hotel pick up and drop off and lunch. I highly recommend you book your plane ride on the Internet. It's on the Web where the best promotions are posted. I've often realized savings between 15 and 35 percent. The sites I use are safe and secure, and I've never had a SNAFU when it comes to trip confirmations. Lastly, make advance reservations. These flights are popular and often sell out.

If you want to really do the canyon, take a Grand Canyon airplane tour. These trips cover a lot of ground and let you see parts of the canyon that many folks on the ground will never see. The West Rim offers air-only, skywalk, and helicopter/boat combo packages. The South Rim has an air-only plus airplane/rafting package. So take your pick. Air tours have got you covered!

Have a GRAND day!
